Council Considers Request To Keep SF Ice And Rec Center Open

Council Considers Request To Keep SF Ice And Rec Center Open
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

The future of Sioux Falls' Ice and Rec Center is still up in the air.

With the new Scheels Iceplex slated to open by October 1 near the Sanford Pentagon, city council members thought the city would no longer be in the ice business.  But at an informational meeting on Tuesday, the request was made to keep the old Rec Center open so there would be ice available come September 1.

While the facility is aging, Parks and Rec would like to keep the center open and re-evaluate the need for ice once the Iceplex is up and running as well.

The issue will be addressed again when the city council starts working on its budget.
