The founder of an organization called 'If Americans Knew' is touring South Dakota amid some controversy.
Alison Weir spoke in Sioux Falls on Monday and has a half dozen appearances in the state this week.
After leaving her job as a newspaper editor in 2001, the author and journalist traveled to the Palestinian territories to find out what the conflict with Israel was all about.
"I'll be talking about the core issue of the Middle East, which is Israel-Palestine and I'll be talking about the American connection to that and most of us who don't happen to be Jewish or Arab or Muslim tend to think that's a confusing issue that has nothing to do with Americans," Weir said.
Weir's tour of the state is attracting some controversy.
Jewish South Dakota lawmaker Dan Lederman blasted the University of South Dakota and the University Center for allowing her to speak, calling her message 'anti-Semitic.'
