Consumer Reports Holiday Poll

December 13, 2012, 9:50 PM by Angela Kennecke

Consumer Reports Holiday Poll
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

If you're feeling a little bit like the Grinch lately, you're not alone. Crowds and long lines have many people saying, "Bah Humbug."

Crowds; weight gain; the crazy mall parking lot; whatever you dread most, you've got plenty of company.

"Shopping for example; 23 percent of people say a big gripe this time of year is having to shop. While a lot of people enjoy it, I guess there are plenty of people who don't," Consumer Reports Senior Project Editor & Shopping Expert Tod Marks said.

Most people, 58 percent of those who responded to the Consumer Reports Holiday Poll said they hate fighting the crowds and long lines in stores.

For women, weight gain in a big issue; 47 percent of us worry about holiday weight gain. Seventy-five percent of women say they over indulge this time of year on holiday treats.

"Other things that made our list of holiday jeers were seasonal music. Fourteen percent of people say they can't stand that holiday song. Four percent of people actually told us their biggest gripe was having to be nice to others this time of year.  Hmmm, that's not the spirit," Marks said.

Aggressive drivers or those who aren't paying attention in crowded parking lots is the third worst thing folks have to deal with this time of year. That's followed by getting into debt.

And one other finding from the survey, 60 percent of those say they do not want to deal with gift cards and would you please just give them cash instead.

This holiday poll focuses on the negatives, but at the same time, 64 percent say they are enjoying the season and most people want to slow down, travel less, go to fewer parties and just relax.
