New renderings of what the SCHEELS IcePlex is expected to look like when it's all finished have just been released and the building is starting to come to life.
"It's been a long haul, but a very rewarding one and just a thrilling period because the future is very bright for ice sports and those related activities here in town," Ice Sports Association Co-Organizers Joe Zueger said.
Zueger says this project started as a dream in 2008 and with every passing day, it becomes more of a reality.
"Time's going quickly. The question, what do we need to get done? A couple of things," Zueger said.
One thing they need to get done is raise more money to complete the project and actually getting construction off the ground.
Crews have been working in the very cold winter weather, which makes lifting a 14,000 pound steel beam difficult.
"We need some ideal construction days and hopefully, we'll get that in the coming days. So they can lift that kind of steel and move forward with the construction that's taking place," Ice Sports Association Executive Director Sue Salter said.
Even with the drop in temperatures, Zueger is positive the building will come to life.
"We're early in the process and we're hoping that if there is some traction lost, it can be gained here once the weather turns," Zueger said.
Construction is well underway on the SCHEELS IcePlex, but the Ice Sports Association still needs to raise more money.
Officials say they are in the final stages of fund raising. The Association says it needs $1 million more to make sure the Ice Complex gets finished.
