Community Supports Children Of Aberdeen Mom Killed In Accident

July 23, 2014, 5:00 PM by Erich Schaffhauser

Community Supports Children Of Aberdeen Mom Killed In Accident
ABERDEEN, SD -

Friends of an Aberdeen mother killed in a June accident want the community to come together to support her young children.

30-year-old Brianne Nutter let her eight-year-old daughter back a car a short distance June 10. The girl lost control, leaving her mother pinned.

Friends are holding a benefit for Nutter's children Sunday at an Aberdeen pub. Her daughters are eight and 14-years-old, according to friends.

Close family friends Zach Carrels and Shirelle Stadel would just as soon not have planned a benefit for Nutter's young children. They'd much rather have their 30-year-old friend still with them.

"It was tough; it was really tough," Carrels said. "Her family's been family to me for a long time."

"It just happened so quickly and it was just really difficult for all of us when we think about the girls and how it affects everyone," Stadel said.

Stadel went to the hospital after Nutter was rushed to the emergency room. What she describes as a hard time then has been followed up by what she and Carrels call an outpouring of community support.

Pounders in Aberdeen will host an 11-hour event Sunday, including an arts and music festival, silent auction and poker run. Money raised will go to Nutter's children, who are living with family.

"We've gotten an overwhelming response from the community. We've had over 100 local businesses and people that have donated to the event in one way of another," Carrels said.

"Everybody's pulled together and trying to do what they can to support the family and the kids. You know, this weekend is going to be a hard benefit but it'll be good for the long run," Stadel said.

The benefit starts at 11 a.m. and runs until 10 p.m. Organizers aren't sure how large of a crowd to expect but say Nutter's family members from across the country will be coming.
