Community Of Hoven Shares Memories Of High School

Community Of Hoven Shares Memories Of High School

People in Hoven are still in shock following a weekend fire that destroyed the high school. The community is banding together to recall memories of the longstanding building.

People have been walking around the yellow caution tape that lines the high school, staring at what's left of a building that helped educate generations of children.

Wednesday was the last day of classes at the high school. It was also the last time Tara Heuer would step foot in the building.

"You really realize that that was the last time you walked in the school, and especially being a senior next year," student Tara Heuer said. "You didn't think you were gonna be done in a couple days after you were in there."

Although classes will never be held in the building again, the people of Hoven have come together as a community to share their memories of the high school.

Barb Seurer's entire family attended classes in Hoven, spanning several generations.

"I can just remember sliding down the banisters. We have these old banisters, and the boys would push you down. We just had a great time in this school," Seurer said.

Despite the situation, members of the community are still hopeful for the future.

"You know, the building burned, but that's not saying the school is gone. So, you know, hopefully our community can bounce back from it," High School Secretary Kim Hoerner said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Hoven community is asking for help from alumni or anyone who'd like to donate to help build a new school. You can send checks to the address listed below:
