Cold Weather Stops Cars, Keeps Tow Trucks Busy

January 21, 2013, 6:30 AM by Stephanie Gregory

Cold Weather Stops Cars, Keeps Tow Trucks Busy
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

If your car doesn't start Monday, Eastgate Towing says they can come to your rescue.

"It's going to be a busy time for a couple of days getting through the cold snap," Eastgate Towing owner Francis Ramm said.

Ramm says when the temperatures drop, car and truck batteries freeze and have trouble starting.

It's a situation his business knows all too well; it's been towing vehicles in KELOLAND for the past 40 years.

"When the cold weather sets in we are always getting busy.  Cars won't start so we have to go out and jump start them or we end up towing them to the service shops," Ramm said.

During this cold spell, Ramm says your car may have more trouble than usual hitting the road.

“One of the main reasons they have to be towed is because the batteries are weak from the mild winters we've had over the years. Their batteries aren't up to full charge and they won't start and we have to tow them into the shop so we can get new batteries put into them,” said Ramm.

Ramm says Eastgate Towing also see a lot of diesel trucks stopping in their tracks.

"People don't put the right mixture into them and they gel up and we have to take them to the shops so they can get thawed," Ramm said.

If this happens to you, Ramm says not to fret, a shop can easily install a new battery and get you back on the road again.

If you need to contact Eastgate Towing you can call them at (605) 334-3160.
