The fresh blanket of snow in KELOLAND will help the cold stay for several days, with highs mainly in the single digits. This cold air this early in December is rare, but it has happened.
Since 1990, Sioux Falls has had 13 days with highs in the single digits during the first two weeks of December. That comes out to be just four percent of the time. The current seven day forecast from this morning has five days with highs only in the single digits.
If it holds true, this will be the most days with single digit highs over the past twenty-three years this early in December. There have been two instances when we've had four days that occurred in 2005 and 2000.
At the present time, we don't see any big warm-ups anytime soon. Even getting to average by mid-December, which is 28 degrees in Sioux Falls will feel like a heat wave.
