Cold, Late Autumn Air Moves In This Week

Cold, Late Autumn Air Moves In This Week

The start of pheasant season often signals quickly changing temperatures.  This year is no different with several major cold fronts plowing through. More frosty air will arrive this week and that could mean single-digit wind chills.

While we're not likely to break many records, it may be time to break out your gloves.  We've seen lows in the teens already this month.  But this system will stick around for a while.

Aberdeen tied a very old record on October 7 after getting down to 14 degrees.  We saw similar numbers in northwest Iowa on the same weekend. Even though it's been a very warm year, Pierre was weeks ahead of schedule in dropping to 19 degrees.  The average first day for teens in the capitol city is November 1.

Scattered rain and possibly a wintry mix could arrive late Wednesday, leading into the cold snap. The showers will be followed by calm and clear air and much lower overnight temperatures.

With rainwater on the ground, we could also see more fog late in the week.

By this weekend, highs will struggle to reach 40 degrees in some parts of South Dakota.
