Eastern KELOLAND has had steady hits of cool air of the past couple of weeks. The next one is set to arrive this weekend, and it's looking like the coldest air of the season so far.
As high pressure from Canada noses south this weekend and settles overhead Sunday morning, temperatures will fall close to 30 degrees in some areas. I wouldn't be surprised if parts of KELOLAND fall to the 20s.
If that happens, it will be a little soon. On average, Sioux Falls has its first 20-degree temperature on October 7. So, if it happens, it will be about two weeks ahead of schedule. The earliest Sioux Falls has seen 20 degrees was way back on September 11, 1894 when the thermometer fell to 28 degrees.
Regardless, keep those tarps and sheets handy if you want to extend the growing season around your house after this weekend.
