April 14, 2011, 6:45 AM
ST. AUGUSTINE, FL -
Former Roosevelt High School basketball standout and now Florida Gator Cody Larson was caught on tape before his arrest discussing the crime he's accused of committing.
Larson, teammate Erik Murphy and team manager Josh Adel all face burglary charges, accused of breaking into a car outside a bar in St. Augustine, Florida.
Police there released a recording between the three which happened after Murphy and Adel were in custody and were being held in a squad car. Larson can be heard on speaker phone, as Murphy and Adel try to convince him to turn himself in.
Josh Adel: "Cody?"
Cody Larson: "Yeah, why did you hang up on me man?"
Adel: "Listen you gotta go find that (bleep)ing cop. I'm tired of being in this (bleep)ing cop car."
Erik Murphy: "They don't have anything on us. We're gonna get off."
Larson: "I don't see any cop car."
Adel: "We're not getting off."
Murphy: "Just tell him we are so he can come. Yo, we don't have anything. We're getting off bro."
Murphy: "We didn't take anything. They don't have anything on us. We're gonna get away."
You can listen to the recording by clicking on the player to the right. It does contain some bleeped out explicit language and is muffled at times.
Florida Coach Billy Donovan suspended Larson, Murphy and Adel indefinitely. Donovan says he is gathering more information into the arrest before making any other decisions.
