Volunteer firefighters in the Black Hills city of Lead have moved into their new $2.8 million fire hall.
The 15,500-square foot building was completed just before Christmas.
It includes space for all 10 of the fire department's trucks, six offices, a conference room, a full kitchen, storage space, an exercise and a radio room. There's also separate space for cleaning and filling air tanks and maintaining equipment.
Lead Fire Department Coordinator Dennis Schumacher says that before the new hall was built, department equipment was scattered throughout the area. Only four of the department's 10 trucks could be housed at the old fire hall on Main Street.
He says the change will significantly cut response times and improve service.
