Sioux Falls officials extended the deadline for people to remove snow and ice from their sidewalks. Homeowners now have until Thursday at 2 p.m. Officials say they extended the normal 48-hour deadline due to the unique nature of our weekend ice/snowstorm, combined with warm temperatures expected Tuesday and Wednesday.
A release sent on Tuesday stated you had until 2 p.m. Tuesday to clean and clear your sidewalks. If they are not cleared off, city workers will do it, but at a cost to homeowners.
After our weekend snow storm, city plows cleared off main and secondary streets, but officials only clear off residential streets when there is a snow alert.
Some people we talked to wondered why they have a deadline to shovel, when their neighborhood streets are icy, bumpy and potentially unsafe.
Tonight on KELOLAND News at 5, we will talk to homeowners and Mayor Mike Huether about these policies.
