SIOUX FALLS, SD -
The City Clerk's Office still has a lot of work to do before the decision is made if Sioux Falls voters will decide if a piece of land should be re-zoned.
The Save Our Neighborhood group recently turned in more than 6,300 signatures to the Clerk's office petitioning the Sioux Falls City Council to let voters decide whether to re-zone land at 85th Street and Minnesota Avenue for a new Walmart.
City Clerk Lorie Hogstad said the group needed at least 5,089 valid signatures. And after going through a random sampling of the signatures, Hogstad says 5,642 are valid, which is 553 more than needed.
But in an affidavit filed at the beginning of the month, Walmart officials claim more than 2,000 of those signatures are invalid.
Now, by law, the Clerk's office must review each of the claims. Because of this workload, Hogstad says she doesn't expect to have numbers finalized for three to four more weeks.
