Charges have been dropped against a Storm Lake woman whose child was injured last month after falling into a backyard campfire.
Buena Vista County Attorney Dave Patton asked on Wednesday to dismiss the case against the 37-year-old woman, who had pleaded not guilty to child endangerment. Patton said he did not have sufficient evidence to convict the woman.
Authorities had initially said the mother left her 4-year-old boy unsupervised for 10 minutes in their backyard, and he fell into the fire. He was pulled from the fire by an older sibling and suffered second-degree burns on his buttocks, hand and forearm.
