CFB: USF's 1-2 Punch

September 19, 2012, 10:37 PM by Jim Madalinsky

CFB: USF's 1-2 Punch
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

In 3 games this season the University of Sioux Falls has averaged more than 39 points per game.
Of their 15 total touchdowns on the year, wide receivers Jeremiah Oates and Carrington Hanna have accounted for 11 of them.

"It really gives defenses a lot of problems because they have to account for two guys because there are still guys in the backfield like (Kristian) Porter and JT (Jordan Taylor) and other wide receivers that can make those plays," USF Head Coach Jed Stugart said.

Oates and Hanna have combined for 34 catches and more than 560 yards so far this season and both rank in the top four in the Northern Sun in catches, yards and touchdowns.

"Being here all summer really helped out and then these past couple weeks me and him have just been really on the same page," WR Jeremiah Oates said.

For Hanna this breakout senior season comes after a challenging junior campaign.
The Ohio native started last season at quarterback for the Cougars, but has taken to life as wideout in style.

"Just knowing what he's seeing and what reads he's making while I'm running my route and making my reads the same. That's why you see us on the same page alot," USF WR Carrington Hanna said.

And after battling for the same position last season, Hanna says he and quarterback Taylor Perkins make a pretty good team.

"That competition really just made our relationship stronger you know the ups and the downs and being able to support each other has made us a good tandem out there," Hanna said.

Even with the early success, both Oates and Hanna say there is plenty of room for improvement, and they know the more attention they get from opposing defenses, the better it will be for everyone else going forward.

"Whether one game they want to double me or one game they want to double him or any of the other receivers that we have who are all capable of making plays it just makes us that much more dynamic and gives us one on one matchups that we believe that we can beat any matchup one on one," Hanna said.
