CFB: BHSU Inks 34 On National Signing Day

CFB: BHSU Inks 34 On National Signing Day
SPEARFISH, SD -

The Black Hills State University football team would like to announce and welcome the newest members of the Yellow Jacket family! Coach Reiners and his staff signed 34 new players that will join the team for next fall's 2013-14 squad.

Head coach, John Reiners, is ecstatic for the potential of these young men who will continue to build the foundation for the program on their way to the goal of winning an RMAC Championship.

“This is not the start but the continuation of something really special here…these are not only great football players but they are great kids,” Coach Reiners said in his press conference on National Signing Day.

“They will be great in what they do, not only on our field on Saturday but also in the classroom and in our community.  Our coaching staff worked relentlessly in regards to the way they pursued these guys and this is one of the best classes we have ever had,” Reiners said, “You can just feel the excitement among the commits.”

The class is made up of athletes from seven different states including Colorado (10), South Dakota (7), California (7), Wyoming (6), Florida (2), Idaho (1) and Montana (1). The class will bring some size to the roster in the fall with 23 of 34 players standing above six-feet tall and averaging 200-pounds.

The class is weighted more on the defensive side of the ball with 18 defensive commits, while 14 of the signees will be playing on the offensive side of the ball.  After losing a total of 13 seniors from last year’s team with nine of those coming on defense, the BHSU coaching staff made it appoint to load up on that side of the ball with some playmakers like CB David Keys (6’3 183 Merced, CA), S J.T Harper (6’2 195 Newcastle, WY), DE Kruze Robinson (6’4 220 Buffalo, SD) and an experienced transfer from the University of North Dakota and most recently City College of San Francisco, DE Ekenna Anya-Gafu (6’2 240 Sacramento, CA) among many others.

A bevy of offensive players will be looking to compete in the fall for some playtime including athletes that may find themselves in multiple roles on the team include speedy RB/WR Steven Reed (5’7 150 Norwalk, CA), WR Bradley Adamson (6’0 180 Merced, CA), ATH Jujuan Henry (5’11 170 Dade City, FL), WR Trey Fleming (6’1 175 Longmont, CO) and RB Phydell Paris (5’10 195 Thornton, CO).

Another important aspect of the needs that were filled was the kicking game after losing both kickers to graduation last year, BHSU reeled in two guys talented specialists in Gunnar Edeen (6’2 160 Sheridan, WY) and Christian Parr (6’5 180 Forsyth, MT).  Three other position players who are a part of the 2013 recruiting class also served as punters for their perspective teams in high school, providing stability at that position as well.
