SIOUX FALLS, SD -
Veteran's Day ceremonies honored some of America's greatest heroes on Friday and that tradition's carried over into the weekend.
At the Center For Active Generations in Sioux Falls, veterans and their families took part in the Blue Star Family Appreciation Event, which allows veterans to unwind a little. Organizers say it's a good break for Veterans and it allows their families to come together.
"It's really important for us to recognize those individuals, give them an opportunity to have some fun events and enjoy a day off from their regular responsibilities," President of Active Generations Gerold Beninga said.
And for Vietnam veteran Verdeen Ahrendt he's glad his family could come today and recognize his service.
We are finally being noticed for serving our country, and we're all proud of being able to serve our country and make us free for today," Ahrendt said.
The event had plenty of entertainment for veterans from a magic show, to portraits for patriots and even chair massages.
