SIOUX FALLS, SD -
A car plunged off an Interstate 29 bridge and nearly ended up in the Skunk Creek early Sunday morning.
The crash happened around 2:30 AM near the 26th Street exit.
The driver apparently lost control and the car flipped off the interstate, ending up on its top along the rocky bank of the river, narrowly missing going into the water.
The two girls in the vehicle were 21-year-old Nichole Kempf and 22-year-old Ashley Gabriel of Sioux Falls. Both were found outside the vehicle and are in serious condition.
Neither girl was wearing a seatbelt.
Speed was a factor, but at this time the highway patrol is unsure whether alcohol was involved.
This article has been revised to reflect the following correction:
A previous version read that the girls nearly ended up in the Big Sioux River but it was actually Skunk Creek.
