The driver of a car that hit a Sioux Falls hotel late Monday afternoon has been arrested for DWI.
The crash happened just after 4 p.m. Monday at the Ramada on West 12th Street.
Witnesses say the car was heading east, veered off the road, and went through a gas station parking lot before crashing into the hotel. There are no signs the driver tried to stop before hitting the hotel wall.
Police pulled several pill bottles from the car as well as two compressed air bottles used to clean computer keyboards. Authorities say the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
"The concern is he's under the influence of prescription medication and the other elements we're looking into to see how much that played a factor today," Sioux Falls Police Sergeant Darren McClary said.
"He didn't look like he was under control of it at all. He came bouncing across there pretty fast. I don't know if he was asleep or not, or out, or trying to, or what the exact circumstances were but he didn't look like he was anyway in control of that vehicle,” witness Timothy McClintock said.
The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
