Canaries Re-Sign Infielder A.J. Kirby-Jones

SIOUX FALLS, SD– The Sioux Falls Canaries announced Thursday the re-signing of infielder A.J. Kirby-Jones.  The Charleston, SC native is expected to be in uniform tonight as the Canaries open up a four-game series against the Kansas City T-Bones at Sioux Falls Stadium at 7:05 PM. To make room on the roster, the Canaries have released infielder Chase Burch and pitcher Kaohi Downing.

Kirby-Jones, 25, played in the San Diego Padres farm system in 2013, splitting time for High-A affiliate Lake Elsinore in the California League and Double-A affiliate San Antonio in the Texas League.  Overall, he hit .250 with 21 doubles and 13 homeruns while collecting 67 RBI in 104 games.

The infielder was originally slated to open the 2014 season in Sioux Falls before being picked up by the Atlanta Braves Organization, playing for the Class-A affiliate Rome Braves in the South Atlantic League.  In 13 games with Rome, Kirby-Jones posted a .156 batting average while collecting three homeruns and seven RBI.

Downing appeared in five games for the Canaries and was 0-1 with a 5.01 ERA over 5 1/3 innings.  Burch hit .146 with a double and a homerun and four RBI in 12 games with Sioux Falls.

The re-signing of Kirby-Jones brings the Sioux Falls Canaries roster up to the American Association maximum of 22 players.
