People in South Dakota are being warned about a possible scam.
Chief Justice David Gilbertson and Attorney General Marty Jackley say callers are using the threat of court action to get personal and credit card information from victims. Those behind the calls identify themselves as court employees collecting money to resolve legal matters.
Residents are reminded that the Court does not use phone solicitations to seek private information from the public. If you receive a suspicious phone call, you can contact your local court to verify legal action or outstanding court debt.
For more information or if you have been a victim of this scam, contact South Dakota Consumer Protection Division at 1-800-300-1986 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
