Businesses can now show they are in compliance with South Dakota laws by getting a Certificate of Good Standing online. The document, which shows a company is authorized to conduct business in the state, can now be obtained on the Secretary of State's website.
The old way of getting the certificate was through a written request by mail and it took several days. Now, a certificate can be ordered and received through the website.
“This new online feature allows companies to move at the speed of business. This is another way that we have made it easier for our customers to interact with state government,” Secretary of State Jason Gant said.
In the last two years, the Secretary of State’s office has increased the functionality of its website. The first initiative was an online filing report system for businesses to file their annual reports online.
"Over 90 percent of all South Dakota businesses are using the online system that has taken a two or three day process, down to minutes--saving businesses money and time,” Gant said.
The cost of a certificate is still $20 via mail or online.
