The mayor of the state's largest city is urging commuters to leave 15 minutes early tomorrow morning. Three major construction projects will begin, causing delays for drivers. The work includes Russell Street, 12th Street and the intersection of 10th and Sycamore.
The city hopes to have work at the 10th Street and Sycamore intersection completed by October 3 of this year.
Manager Jim Johnson of O'Reilly Auto Parts just east of the intersection says this is the worst possible time for the cones to be put up. He considers the warmer months to be the busiest time for the store because more people work on their cars during the summer.
I am the easiest option coming in from Brandon, Iowa, Minnesota when they're coming into town on East 10th here. Hey I'm the first auto parts store they see which is great, but with the construction? They may go 'Well we might not ever get out of that place so let's just keep going and find another one, Johnson said.
Johnson says other businesses around the construction might not struggle as much because they have multiple entrances. O'Reilly has just one entrance off Arrowhead Parkway.
