More than 1,000 people gathered in Sertoma Park on Saturday for the annual Buddy Walk in Sioux Falls.
The event is a fundraiser for kids with Down syndrome and featured a variety of different activities for families.
But the main event was the awareness walk. And although it's only one mile long, organizers say that distance still gets people's attention.
"When there's 1,000 to 1,100 people of all ages joining in and walking together for down syndrome the communication is put out bigger into the community of who we are and what we want to do to help people," New Directions president Pam Strohm
Along the one mile walk, volunteers held up pictures of kids with Down syndrome, so others could see the walk's purpose.
