BROOKINGS, SD -
A cheese company out of Chicago has announced it's bringing a $120 million manufacturing plant and hundreds of jobs to Brookings.
The Brookings City Council has approved an agreement with Bel Brands USA, which makes the Laughing Cow Cheese Brands.
The company's plans include investing about $100 million in building the new plant, which will be done in two phases. The first is scheduled to break ground this summer. Its addition to the community is expected to create 200 jobs in 2014. A second phase could bring another 200 jobs if the market demand is favorable.
Brookings leaders, Governor Dennis Daugaard and Bel Brands representatives plan to officially announce the development Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Swiftel Center.
KELOLAND News will be at the announcement and bring you the details later today on KELOLAND News.
