Brookings PD Connects Rape To Campus Attacks

April 20, 2010, 4:59 PM by Shawn Neisteadt

Brookings PD Connects Rape To Campus Attacks
BROOKINGS, SD - A Brookings attacker appears to be getting braver.  Police believe the same man who sexually assaulted two women on campus at South Dakota State University has struck again. And this time the situation is even more serious.

It's tense in Brookings after the third sexual attack in just a few weeks.

Police say just after midnight a black man, 5'8" to 6' tall kidnapped and robbed a woman at knifepoint before taking her to another place in town where he raped her.

Police are asking for any information to solve this case.

"Obviously, we're asking for the public's help as well because we can't be everywhere all the time. So we're hoping someone somewhere knows who this individual is. Someone, somewhere can get the information and get this stopped," Brookings Police Chief Jeff Miller said.

Right now, police are not releasing the specific location for Tuesday morning's crimes. They will say that unlike the two previous attacks, this did not happen on campus. But investigators do believe they are connected.

You can contact the Brookings Police Department at 692-2113 or the University Police Department at 688-5117.

Crime Stoppers is also offering a reward for any information leading to the arrest of a suspect. Crime tips can be reported anonymously by calling 692-STOP (7867). Or you can submit a tip to the Brookings Crimestoppers website.
