Brookings Assault Suspect Appears In Court
April 26, 2010, 11:39 AM
BROOKINGS, SD -
The preliminary hearing for a man accused in a string of sexual assaults that rattled the city of Brookings has been scheduled for May 3.
Twenty-one-year-old Chris Jones made a brief court appearance Monday. The former Omaha, Nebraska, man faces rape, robbery and kidnapping charges in three sexual assaults in the past three weeks on and off the South Dakota State University campus.
A preliminary hearing is held to determine if there is enough evidence in the case to proceed. It would be unnecessary if a grand jury were to indict Jones, who is being held on $250,000 cash bond.
