Brilliant Fall Colors On The Way

Friday marks the first day of autumn and if football isn't your thing, maybe you should check out leaves.

The colors of the season are starting to arrive.

The recent cool weather has us seeing a few trees starting to turn to red and gold, and much more is on the way.

The latest fall foliage maps indicate patchy colors into south-central Minnesota, with more intense colors across northeastern Minnesota where the color is nearing its peak.

Normally, much of eastern KELOLAND will see the most beautiful fall color by mid October.

Those fall hues always arrive a little faster in the Black Hills. Reports indicate more than 50 percent color in Spearfish Canyon and it's only supposed to intensify over the next week, reaching its peak by early October.

Mild weather will help that peak and that's exactly what we are forecasting. Usually, a long stretch of mild afternoons and cool crisp nights will help to intensify fall color. As long as the wind doesn't blow all the leaves off the trees, the temperature and moisture forecast the next 7 to 10 days is right on track to bring out some brilliant fall color this year.
