A 41-year-old Brandon man is in jail as a suspect in a cold case murder investigation out of Montana.
Thomas Jaracaeski was arrested in Sioux Falls last night and according to court papers he killed a man following a relationship gone bad.
The crime dates back to 1996.
According to court papers, Jaraczeski was distraught and shot and killed veterinarian Dr. Brian Rein who was dating Jaraczeski's ex-girlfriend, Ann Wishman.
Authorities say Wishman and Rein had been talking to one another while Jaraczeski and Wishman were still living together.
Rein had left a message on the answering machine for Wishman to call him. Jaraczeski listened to the message and asked Wishman, "What the hell is going on?"
Jaraczeski said he knew right then she must have cheated on him.
Court papers say Jaraczeski was devastated. He told investigators "I was really hurt because it was almost like we were married."
Shortly after their breakup, Jaraczeski began to stalk Wishman and Rein. That was in June of 1996.
A month later, Rein was found dead on the kitchen floor of his trailer house with his .357 Magnum near his left hand with two gunshot wounds to his right arm and one gunshot wound to his chest.
Jaraczeski's is in the Minnehaha County jail with bond set at $500,000.
