Boyfriend Remembers Connors As 'Perfect'

September 14, 2012, 6:27 PM by Hailey Higgins

Boyfriend Remembers Connors As 'Perfect'
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

The long-time boyfriend of Amanda Connors is speaking out for the first time about the woman he calls "perfect."

Instead of a wedding, Tyler Veurink is now helping plan the funeral for the love of his life.

"I wanted to marry her. I wanted to have kids with her. Now because of one senseless act, I can't have any of that," Veurink said.

Veurink's trying to pick up shattered dreams and a broken heart. Connors, his girlfriend of more than four years, was killed outside Cost Cutters on Tuesday.

Police say Tyrone Smith shot her after he kidnapped his kids from a babysitter and went to the salon looking for his ex-girlfriend, violating a protection order. Police say Connors died a hero trying to protect her employees.

"I know why because she cared too much," Veurink said. "That's the kind of person she was. She was going to confront him. She knew he wasn't supposed to be there."

Amid his grief of the woman he calls his soul mate, Veurink clearly remembers the last time he saw Connors alive. It was Tuesday morning before he left for work in Platte.

"She sat up and we hugged and she said, 'Have a good day.' I told her to drive safe. She said, 'Have a good day, I love you,'" Veurink said.

With so much attention surrounding her death, the man who knew her best wants everyone to know the special woman Connors was.

"Beautiful not just on the outside, but everything about her, her personality, her soul, you couldn't get any better of a person," Veurink said.

He was planning to propose in February; Connors already had a wedding ring picked out. And now that those plans will never be, Veurink is left with memories and unanswered questions.

"I just want to know why, but I'll never know," Veurink.

Veurink says Connors will be buried in New Holland. It's not where she grew up, but it is the place Veurink says she planned to be laid to rest after living a long life with him.
