Boil Water Order Issued For Ellsworth Air Force Base

August 23, 2014, 3:58 PM

Boil Water Order Issued For Ellsworth Air Force Base
ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, SD -

A boil water order has been issued for Ellsworth Air Force Base, Antelope Ridge and Vandenberg Elementary.

Water should not be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation until further notice.

An on-base water sample exceeded the E. Coli standard and residents are not to drink the water without boiling it first. The bacteria can make a person sick, especially those with weakened immune systems. E. Coli can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches and other symptoms.

Those experiencing these symptoms and they persist, should seek medical advice by calling 605-385-6700.

Water is to be brought to a boil for at least one minute and allowed to cool or use bottled water. Boiling the water does kill bacteria and other organisms in the water.

Base officials will be closing down certain housing in Prairie View Estates to fix the issue as soon as possible.
