One man is in jail and another is on the run after a Sioux City murder case crosses the border into Lincoln County.
Sunday morning, a passerby found the body of 20-year-old Adrian Rojas Hernandez in a ditch between Worthing and Canton. Now, authorities are looking for your help finding a man connected to the crime.
A man driving south of Sioux Falls this weekend unknowingly started a homicide investigation.
"The person was driving down the road and just noticed what looked to him like maybe a person or something else in the road ditch. But it concerned him enough to where he called the sheriff's office," Lincoln County Sheriff Dennis Johnson said.
What he discovered was the body of a Sioux City man burned in the ditch between Highway 11 and 115 on 281st Street.
"What we know and what we believe is that the victim was killed in Sioux City and then just dumped on to the side of the road in Lincoln County," said Johnson, "There was evidence that an attempt had been made to set the body on fire, however that was met with limited success."
Lincoln County officials sent out an alert about Hernandez's body being found, and Sioux City police quickly responded.
"Fortunately they contacted us and we were able to identify by tattoos, and then he was later confirmed by fingerprints," Sioux City Police Chief Doug Young said.
Police are now looking for Martin Castellanos.
An accomplice to the crime, Ricardo Vital, told authorities that Castellanos is responsible for the murder in Sioux City and for dumping the body in Lincoln county.
"It was an isolated incident amongst people that knew each other. The only concern I've got is that he could still be armed and obviously we're going to consider him as being dangerous anyway," Young said.
Castellanos is believed to be driving a silver 2003 Audi A4 with Iowa plates 892 YSD. He is described as being 5'8", around 180 pounds, with a light mustache.
