MADISON, SD -
Authorities in Lake County discovered a body near Memorial Creek in Madison Sunday afternoon.
A 29-year-old male, who hasn't been identified, was found by residents checking their property for flood damage around 12:30.
Officials are calling the death an apparent accidental drowning. However, after Saturday's storms, one Madison resident who owns homes and apartments along Memorial Creek, says the water was so high that a vehicle wouldn't have made it through, let alone a person.
"I can tell you that you couldn't walk where we are standing," property owner Russell Belvin said. "You couldn't walk, the water was going so fast through here right over this bridge and right on down the street. My nephew tried to go through there and they stopped him and the Fire Department said don't walk through here you won't make it through."
The creek is now back in it's banks for the most part.
