Black Hills State University is beginning construction of a new, 50,000-square-foot residence hall.
Crow Peak Hall will include a two-story great room, a residential kitchen for student use, a fireplace, a snack area and a multi-media study rooms. An outdoor learning venue and amphitheater will also be built.
Officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for the $13.7 million project on Friday.
BHSU vice president of student life Lois Flagstad called it an exciting day for Black Hills State and the Spearfish community.
The hall is expected to house more than 190 students with about 500 residents in the overall complex.
It's the school's first new residence in nearly 50 years.
