Bill Would Shorten Time Sex Offenders Have To Register

January 27, 2011, 7:24 AM by Hailey Higgins

Bill Would Shorten Time Sex Offenders Have To Register
PIERRE, SD - A bill to better protect the community from sex offenders will be discussed this legislative session in Pierre.

By the request of the attorney general, the Judiciary Committee is introducing a bill that will shorten the time sex offenders have to register when they move. Right now, convicted sex offenders have five days from the time they move to update authorities. If passed, Senate Bill 32 would change that to just three days. The bill will also require police to collect passport and professional license information as well.

So far, no one has voted against the bill as it makes is way through the legislative process.
