U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken introduced legislation on Wednesday to help rural water projects like the Lewis and Clark Regional Water System move forward.
“Here we have a situation where the local communities have paid their share, they've paid about 99% of their share and it's time for the federal government to pay its share,” Franken said.
The bill would provide $80 million per year for 15 years to complete construction of authorized rural water projects.
When completed, the Lewis & Clark Regional Water System will provide water to 300,000 people in Iowa, Minnesota, and South Dakota.
