Bill Being Introduced That Could Make Animal Cruelty A Felony In South Dakota

Heidi Hunter of SD FACT (South Dakotans Fighting Animal Cruelty Together) told KELOLAND-TV that Senate Bill 46 will be introduced by the Ag Committee this legislative session in Pierre.

The bill will make it a felony to commit animal abuse, and it would clarify that standard livestock-raising practices aren't mistreatment. South Dakota is the only state in the county that doesn't have felony-level penalties already in place.

Coming up later on KELOLAND News, we'll hear more about this bill and why SD FACT thinks this is more than just an animal rights issue.
