'Big Squeeze' Encourages Blood Pressure Checks
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

A month-long campaign to raise awareness about blood pressure kicks off Tuesday morning in Sioux Falls.

Several agencies, including the City of Sioux Falls, will reveal "The Big Squeeze" to encourage people to get their blood pressure checked in May.

The American Heart Association says nearly 75 million people are diagnosed with high blood pressure in the United States.  But now knowing you have it is a dangerous health risk.

"High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is a serious health concern," Chief Medical Officer for DAKOTACARE Dr. Paul Amundson said in a statement. "It is often called 'the silent killer' because high blood pressure often comes with no symptoms. In fact, an
estimated 22 million people in our country have high blood pressure and are not being treated for it, which means people of all ages need to know their numbers."

The Big Squeeze kicks off AT 11:15 Tuesday morning at Fire Station #3 in Sioux Falls.
