Big Projects Top Building Permits For First Three Months Of 2014

Big Projects Top Building Permits For First Three Months Of 2014

An assisted living addition, Sioux Falls' new elementary school and the Scheels IcePlex are the top construction projects so far in 2014.   The latest building permit values for the first three months of 2014 are at just over $109 million. That's down about $40 million from the same time period last year.

There have been no new building permits issued for manufacturing and commercial building is about half of what it was this time last year.  However, educational and office construction is up considerably with the new Susan B. Anthony School and the new $1.1 million Dental Comfort Center going up at at 41st Street and Sycamore Avenue.

There has also been a big leap in home remodeling in Sioux Falls at the start of 2014.  It's up to $21 million in building permits--three times what it was for the same period in 2013.  Single family home permits remain steady, while permits for new apartment buildings are down.
