Big Games Mean Big Business For Sports Bars

Big Games Mean Big Business For Sports Bars
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

The Vikings and Packers went head-to-head for the second time in two weeks and of course, fans had their favorites.

"It's a close rivalry; there are fans from both sides here in town. I just look for a nice clean game, a lot of fun and I'd like to see Minnesota win," Viking fan Mark Cook said.

"I think the Packers will win, but it will be a close game," Packers fan Shawn Ulmer said.

Football fans across the region headed out to sports bars and keeping the restaurants very busy throughout the weekend.

"It's going to be a pretty hectic day, last week when the Vikings played it was full in here and this week we're opening the comedy club too so it's going to be a pretty hectic day," Rookie's General Manager Jamie Wiechmann said.

Rookie's Sports Bar in Sioux Falls can hold about 400 people and it expects to be maxed out Saturday. These games mean one thing for Rookie's and that's big business.

"Just come out for a beer and watch some games," Cook said.

"The main thing is making sure we have enough stuff in stock, lots of mixers out and get enough beer and all that stuff to get the crowd filled up with food and everything," Wiechmann said.

The more people that come to the bar, means more money for the restaurant.

"For football we typically do lots of bucket sales where you can get five beers in a bucket, we also have our Towers of Beer, our 180 oz towers you can order. Those are really popular for game day," Wiechmann said.

With a lot of trash talk in the air, it's not about who wins or loses it's about how you play the game right?

"Good luck, there is going to be a lot of Packers fan in Lambeau tonight," Ulmer said.

"I don't know if I can say a lot of those words on TV, but..." Cook said.
