A Black Hills State University opera company is closing out a 16-year run with a pair of final performances this weekend.
Johanna Meier Opera Theater Institute began in 1998. Meier says she's grateful for having been able to share the beauty and gift of music through the years.
The internationally acclaimed opera singer and Spearfish resident says she's been involved in theater and music since she was an infant, and she'd like a few years to relax and do things she'd like to do.
Scenes from several famous operas will be performed Friday evening in the Clare and Josef Meier Recital Hall. On Saturday, performers will present a condensed English version of Mozart's "Marriage of Figaro" in the Woodburn Auditorium.
