Below Average October, Below Average Snow

October 31, 2012, 5:26 PM by Scot Mundt

Below Average October, Below Average Snow

October will end up as the fifth consecutive month with below average rain in Sioux Falls.

It goes down in the books with just three days of measurable rain, totaling .86; far below the average for October of 2.17 inches.

Since 1950, there have been 43 Octobers of below average rain.

During the following winter season, Sioux Falls averaged just under 39 inches of snow, about two inches below average.

Of the 19 above average Octobers since 1950, the city has averaged 46.7 inches of snow.

So, if history is any indication, it is looking like a below average snow season is ahead of us.
