Belle Fourche Won't Be Home To Keystone Crew Camp

December 12, 2013, 1:24 PM

Belle Fourche Won't Be Home To Keystone Crew Camp
BELLE FOURCHE, SD -

TransCanada officials say they will not construct a crew camp in Butte County.

County commissioners continue to look at a proposed ordinance to regulate crew housing facilities. The ordinance would define where they could be built, where they're prohibited, the permit process, enforcement of the permit process and other provisions.

Bud Anderson, an independent contractor for TransCanada, says the company's workforce dwellings are small trailer-like buildings that sit on rails.

He says for construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, TransCanada is looking at building workforce complexes in Harding County between Camp Crook and Buffalo, in Meade County near Opal and in Tripp County near at Colome.

Medical, security, food service, laundry, water, and wastewater treatment are provided on-site 24-hours per day.
