Becoming A Reserve Police Officer

August 21, 2013, 6:15 PM

Becoming A Reserve Police Officer
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

If you've ever wanted to become a police officer, but not give up your day job now is your chance.

Minnehaha County is looking for new members of its police reserve program. Duties include helping police and sheriff's deputies with special community events.

Reserve officers are sworn by the state of South Dakota and have arrest powers.

Applicants must be 21, have a valid driver’s license, have no criminal history and make it through screenings.

“It's a competitive process, consisting of an application, oral interview, sight test, and a little more through background on our final applicants,” Minnehaha County Emergency Management’s Doug Blomker said.

Those who make the cut will undergo 150 hours of training starting next year.

You can apply at the Minnehaha County Office of Emergency Management at 608 Sigler Ave. near the Arena or call 367-4290.
