BATH, SD -
The Bath Fire Department is now a satellite station of the Groton Area Fire Protection and Rescue District.
Brown and Day county commissioners unanimously approved the measure during a joint meeting Tuesday afternoon.
The Bath department was facing the possibility of closure because it did not have 15 volunteers. That's the minimum number required by South Dakota law to keep a fire department open.
All of the volunteer firefighters and equipment from the Bath department will join with the Groton department under the command of Groton Fire Chief Dion Bahr.
