Automania Lures People From Across US

June 13, 2010, 10:00 PM by Cherlene Richards

Automania Lures People From Across US
SIOUX FALLS,SD - Despite a few rain drops, and below average temps, people flooded Automania this weekend.  The annual event showcases hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of hot rods, muscle cars, and vintage beauties.  But, the event not only brings in some high priced rides, it also lures in people from across the country to Sioux Falls.

During the 3 day event, collectors and admirers can see about 1,000 different vehicles. And they're not only from South Dakota. These pricey beauties are from all across the United States.

“I like it, it's a good show, spread out, not too many cars, but, it's enough of them, where you can look at them,” Larry Quindel, St. James, MN, said.

People say the annual show's a great opportunity to see what's out there - and to travel.

“We go to a lot of different shows, and we try and do one or two out of state, every year,” Sheryl Gardner from Medina, MN said.

While people are in KELOLAND, taking in the sights and sounds of Automania, they're spending some of their hard earned cash here in Sioux Falls.

“Probably less than $500 bucks, that really isn't terrible, between the hotels and the car, the show is free,” Gardner said.

Sheryl Gardner says she and a few friends from the twin cities area drove several show-worthy cars to Automania. It'll end up being a 3-day trip for them.

“It's a quick drive, it's a real easy drive, 4 hours and we're here,” Gardner said.

Like so many other enthusiasts who came riding in style, or those who just came to browse. The entire trip is costing something, and it's helping local businesses.

“Usually, we just do the car show's, but I like to do antique shops too so, we'll see if we can find some,” Gardner said.

Automania wrapped up Sunday afternoon.  For more information about the event, or to contact organizers about next year's show, check out their website.
