More than 20 hours after he first went missing, authorities are still looking for a prisoner who escaped from a transport van near Spencer, South Dakota.
31-year-old Oscar Antonio Herrera-Menjivar was one of 13 prisoners being transport to Nebraska by a private prison-transport van. The van stopped at a fuel station around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday morning near the Spencer area and that’s when Herrera-Menjivar escaped.
He is five-feet, five-inches tall, weights 140 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes, Authorities say he was wearing a prison orange shirt but might be seen wearing a blue t-shirt, shorts and black running shoes.
Initial Information indicates he was originally charged with sexual assault of a minor and was being transported from Florida to Nebraska.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says Herrera-Menjivar is considered dangerous.
The Highway Patrol, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, McCook County Sheriff’s Office and Hanson County Sheriff’s Office are all involved in the search.
