Investigators in Lyon County, Iowa say they'll never know exactly what caused an SUV to pull out in front of a semi near Grand Falls Casino Thursday night.
The Lyon County sheriff says Charles Rice had stopped his GMC before turning left in front of a Peterbilt semi tractor Thursday night around 5:30 p.m. Thursday night outside of Larchwood.
Witnesses say the driver of the semi, Randy Gergen, did not have enough time to stop and hit the SUV, pushing both vehicles into the east ditch.
Rice and his passenger, Kristin Laudermilk, both of Sioux Falls, died after getting hit.
The sheriff's office says the crash was caused by driver error and they don't believe the layout of the road is to blame.
But drivers in the area say this area is a "death trap." We'll hear more from both sides tonight on KELOLAND News.
