Augustana Hires Slade Larscheid As A.D.

March 27, 2014, 4:45 PM by Travis Fossing

Augustana Hires Slade Larscheid As A.D.
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

After 28 years under the watchful eye of Bill Gross, Augustana has hired a new Director of Athletics, and it's Roosevelt Activities Director Slade Larscheid.

Slade Larscheid added a navy blue and gold tie to his collection Thursday, as he was named Augustana Athletic Director.  The Spearfish native has ten years of experience as an administrator at the collegiate level, and is excited to join the Vikings.

"What Augustana stands for it's a unique experience.  The student-athletes, coaches, administration are top-notch.  I'm just blessed to have the opportunity," Augustana Athletic Director Slade Larscheid said.

"His values, his attitudes, the way he conducts himself.  He's a really good fit here at Augustana College," Augustana President Rob Oliver said.

"I'm a big guy about vision and looking ahead, and I really think that's probably the key thing I see in him is that he's going to be a guy that's going to be on the forefront and cutting edge of what needs to be done, and what needs to happen in the future for Augustana athletics, Former A.D. Bill Gross said.

Larscheid replaces Bill Gross as Augustana A.D., and he's looking to capitalize on the college's previous success, which extends beyond the playing field.

"Capitalize on the revenue generating side.  They do a really good job right now, and hopefully another set of eyes will help, and I just look forward to the opportunity, and working with such a great staff," Larscheid said.

"We need to grow our fan base.  We need to continue to grow our support.  We need to have winning teams.  You need the money to have winning teams.  It's going to be critical for us to generate revenue to grow Augustana sports, and to move along with the Sioux Falls community," Gross said.

Gross now works in Augustana's Advancement Office, and Larscheid says he plans to use Gross as a sounding board.  As for his athletic background, Slade attended Northwestern University, and was a member of the Wildcat football team.
